A Tripartite Framework for Professional & Personal Mastery
The frameworks I develop are not for entertainment; they are the result of deep inquiry into subjects that define the human experience. By exploring the intersections of ancient culture and human nature, I have codified a system of archetypes that serves as a map for transformation and leadership.
Real Archetypes for Real Transformation
An ancient Map to our Deepest Drives
French philologist Georges Dumézil identified that ancient Indo-European societies—spanning from Western Europe to India—functioned through a tripartite structure: Priests (Magicians), Warriors, and Producers (Craftsmen). This foundational division of labor is more than historical trivia; it is a universal model for human drives and professional evolution.
All modern professional roles are extensions of these three primary vocations:
- The Artist/Specialist is an extension of the Craftsman.
- The Executive/General is a specialized form of the Warrior.
- The Visionary/Strategist is an extension of the Magician.
As Rory Sutherland (Vice Chairman of Ogilvy) has noted, these roles often overlap in high-level strategy—where a General must think like an Artist to achieve the counterintuitive.

The Trajectory of Leadership: The progression through Craftsman, Warrior, and Magician represents an upward trajectory: from the refinement of base skills, through inner growth and outward expansion, to the pinnacle of visionary leadership. However, this is not a single linear process but a cycle of refinement. Mastery requires a constant return to these foundations through cycles of practice, growth, and renewal.
The Craftsman (or Artisan) creates objects of material (and spiritual) value, encloding cultural beliefs or memories in them.
The Warrior protects, captures territory, and operates on a code of honor, bravery, and risk.
A master of language and spectacle, the Magician inspires, and provides vision and meaning.
A cyclical blueprint of the three archetypes of Craftsman, Warrior, and Magician.
