Hypnosis: At The “Forefront” Of “Wellnes Trends”

Hypnosis is “coming to the forefront” of today’s wellness trend, says the online magazine Dazed Digital

“… mental health issues like anxiety and depression are at an all-time high,” says Dazed Digital, “many are looking for new wellness treatments that feel both holistic and new. Hypnosis is a fast emerging option – it’s even offered at major spas such as the Four Seasons New York City, and at various acupuncturists and yoga studios across the globe.”

Whether it’s about getting fitter or getting healthier, having more quality time, or starting a new business that reflects the individual’s personality and values, Dazed Digital is absolutely correct that, especially since early 2020, more and more people have been making wellness a priority. And more and more people have been acting on it, rather than just thinking or talking about it.

However, while it’s not entirely clear in the article, there’s a very significant difference between wellness and mental health just as there is a fundamental distinction between hypnotism and hypnotherapy. And it’s important to know the difference before you seek one out. (Before we talk about the differences, a quick disclaimer: I am a practicing hypnotist. I am not a hypnotherapist.)

Hypnotism or hypnotherapy — which is right for you?

A hypnotherapist will:

Help you work on a psychological or mental health issue (such as clinical depression, insomnia, PTSD, etc.).

(Of course, you can seek out another type of qualified mental health practitioner instead of a hypnotherapist if you need therapy or treatment for a psychological or mental health issue).

A hypnotist will:

  1. Help you face and triumph over a challenge or obstacle in your life.
  2. Help you succeed with important goals.
  3. Help you with your performance (especially remaining calm and in control during stressful situations).

Challenges might include quitting smoking, relaxing and reducing stress, or stopping clenching your jaw or grinding your teeth.

Goals can include getting focused on work or on a business, gaining confidence, or losing weight.

To put it another way, hypnotherapy is about mental health. Hypnotism is about wellness. And wellness is about quality of life: stepping up and living according to your values, dreams, and aspirations.
